Inspiring Quotes

If we practise cherishing others sincerely in this life, we shall resolve our many problems of anger, jealousy, and so forth, and our mind will always be calm and peaceful.

Our Center

Saraha Kadampa Buddhist Center is the longest established Kadampa Buddhist Center in North America. It has been in the Bay Area for more than 16 years and has a large and thriving community of lay and ordained members who come from a variety of backgrounds and experience.

Our Temple

Our beautiful Kadampa Buddhist Temple, dedicated to world peace, is located in the Mission. Here we offer classes to people of all levels of interest.

Our Teacher

Gen Kelsang Chöma is a senior Kadampa Buddhist nun who was one of the first Americans to be ordained and asked to teach by Geshe Kelsang. She studied and practiced under his guidance for more than 20 years and has taught in the San Francisco Bay Area; Santa Fe, New Mexico; and throughout New England where she started Serlingpa Meditation Center in Massachusetts.
Drop-in meditation classes

Our two weekly meditation classes at our Temple in the Mission are on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:00-8:45PM and on Sunday mornings from 11AM-12:30PM.

These drop-in meditation classes consist of a talk, guided meditations, and a chance for questions and answers. Each talk is a part of a series, yet it is self-contained. This means that you can drop in at any point in the series and still feel that you have something worthwhile to take home with you.

Evening classes are $10 and lunch-time classes are $5.

In-depth Buddhist study programs

Foundation Program:
For those who wish to explore Buddha's teachings more deeply, we offer the Foundation Program (FP) in Mahayana Buddhism. These study and meditation classes are ideal for those who wish to take their understanding and meditation practice to a different level, even if they are relative newcomers. Everyone is welcome to come to a class to see if they like it and want to stay. Please e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
